Doug has spent the past 20 years in the media and technology fields and enjoys an impressive track record of identifying early trends in the digital media, Internet, wireless and interactive TV industries as both an investor and entrepreneur.
Doug started his career in Hollywood where he developed television game shows including Win, Lose or Draw and The Joker's Wild (where he was also an Executive Producer). Believing in the future of digital entertainment, Doug joined Electronic Arts in the early 90’s as a product development executive where, during his 3 years there, the company grew from less than $100M to over $400M in revenues. Following EA, Doug was recruited to become Senior VP/GM of Turner New Media (a division of Time Warner) where he managed the division's online, videogame, interactive TV and licensing businesses. Doug left Turner in 1997 to become President/Services of Internet TV startup, Navio Communications (later Liberate), which went public for over $1 billion in 2000. For the past 9 years, Doug has been a Managing Director at Selby Ventures where he has focused on digital media, Internet and mobile investments. In addition to being a founding venture investor in Pandora Media (www.pandora.com), a leading online radio service with over 10 million monthly listeners, Doug was an early investor in Coremetrics (www.coremetrics.com), a leading web analytics company, Panopticon (KANA), a seed stage personalization technology company acquired for over $100M, 4info (www.4info.com), the largest SMS ad network, and Bigfix (www.bigfix.com), a next generation software/services company. Doug was previously a consultant to TIVO (TIVO) and advisor to Glumobile (GLU), a leader in mobile gaming. Doug has brought his vision and passion to the philanthropic world as well, where as a 5 year advisor to Grameen Foundation (www.gfusa.org), a leading microfinance organization, he has helped raise millions of dollars from Silicon Valley. Grameen Bank’s founder, Professor Muhammad Yunus, won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2008. Doug received his B.S. from U.C. Berkeley (where he was also a concert producer) and an MBA from Harvard University. Doug is married with 4 children and enjoys music, skiing, tennis, and spending time with his family. |
